Happy New Year and Save the Date!
Published: Jan 5, 2013
Dear Alumni & Friends:
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! We hope the holiday season has brought time to relax with family and friends. We’re writing on behalf of the Columbia Daily Spectator to thank you for your support this year, and to reflect on the exciting work that has been done in 2012. But first, please Save the Date—our Annual Awards Dinner is February 9, 2012. More details to come!
In 2012, Spectator stayed at the forefront of breaking news—covering stories from the Manhattanville expansion to the Election Night speech of President Obama (CC’83) in Chicago. We increased our online presence, too, through Spectrum and our very own Youtube channel. Meanwhile, the Eye magazine published groundbreaking special issues on topics such as the 30th anniversary of coeducation at Columbia College.
And this year, Spectator continued its growth from a college newspaper to a true non-profit organization. In September, we launched our online archives, a historic “digitization” project carried out by the paper and Columbia University Libraries. Additionally, 2012 marked the first Columbia Media Conference, which brought speakers from The New Yorker, Buzzfeed, and other key media organizations to our campus.
These exciting initiatives were made possible by support from you, our alumni and friends. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to Spectator, please visit our donation page, found here. Please note that our digitization initiative is still underway; a contribution in the coming weeks can help ensure the completion of our archives to include more recent articles.
From our office on Broadway and 112th, we send our heartfelt thanks for your support. Best wishes for the New Year, and we hope to see you at the Awards Dinner on February 9th .
