Technology fund update

Published: Jun 17, 2012

Thanks to recent donations to the Technology Fund, Spectator has been able to purchase much-needed equipment for the office. In addition to acquiring four new computers, we were able to update all of the office servers. With advanced servers we can now store the necessary amounts of data needed to bring multimedia news and graphics to the Columbia campus and Morningside Heights communities. Likewise,  Spectator has purchased a new, state-of-the art lens (known around the office as the “God lens”) for our cameras. Among the lens’ advanced features are its capabilities to take extremely high-resolution photographs and produce quality images in low-light situations.

Even with these recent technological upgrades, there are still many improvements to be made. Despite our recently updated servers, our outdated computers and printers often break down. Similarly, we lack the number of cameras necessary to achieve our high standards in photojournalism. We are delighted with these recent tech improvements, but are always in need of better and faster tools and software . Visit our alumni page to donate today!
